Biggest Steal of a Pickup: Alden for J.Crew 405 Indy Boots ($249.41 - Savings: $235.47 - 48.6% off)

I’ve been eying a pair of Indy Boots for quite some time, but at $430 it was a little too much of a reach…until Friday. American Express is running a promotion right now called The Gift Chain where if you spend $25 (for up to 10 times maximum), you will receive a gift that ranges from statement credit to $500 American Express Gift Cards as well as gifting three to your Facebook friends.

So I made a purchase Thursday night (future post on that later), and was notified within 10 minutes by email that I received my first gift from The Gift Chain. That had me thinking…I’m going to make purchases a J. Crew somewhere down the line at some point in time…it wouldn’t hurt to just buy 9 - $25 Gift Cards and see what gifts I receive back from American Express. Long story short this is what I received:

• $75 in statement credit
• $40 in American Express Gift Cards
• $20 in Starbucks Gift Cards
• $15 off a future J. Crew purchase

For the weekend, J. Crew had their 30% off purchases over $250, which alone brought the 405 Indy Boots from $450 to $315 prior to taxes. Because of my statement credits, $225 in GC’s cost me only $150, which left me (after taxes) with a balance of $114.41. After applying the $15 off a future purchase, I was left with $99.41 + $150 (net cost of GC’s) for a grand total of $249.41.

The next day, they removed all Alden Collabs from the sale promotion so I was damn lucky.

Yeah I may be gloating a bit.
